  • When should I contact a lawyer or conveyancer when buying property?

    It’s best to seek advice before signing a contract. Early involvement allows your representative to review the contract, identify any risks, and ensure your interests are protected from the outset.

  • How long does conveyancing take?

    The conveyancing process typically takes around 1 to 6 weeks from exchange of contracts to settlement. However, this timeframe can vary depending on the funds borrowed, complexity, and the agreement between the parties.

  • What is the cooling-off period?

    In NSW, buyers of residential property can have a 5-business-day cooling-off period after exchange of contracts. During this time, you can withdraw from the contract, but a small penalty may apply.

  • What is exchange of contracts?

    Exchange of contracts is when both the buyer and seller sign and swap contracts, making the agreement legally binding. At this point, the deposit is usually paid and the settlement period begins.

  • What happens at settlement?

    Settlement is the final stage of the transaction where the balance of the purchase price is paid, and ownership of the property is transferred to the buyer. Once the settlement is complete, the buyer can take possession of the property.

  • How much does conveyancing cost?
